The seed swap happens from 1 to 3 pm; after, attend a one-hour workshop on seed selection, avoiding cross-pollination, saving the gene pool and other vital information concerning the ever-expanding human population and our food sources and planting; bring your favourite seeds.

Our display and seed swap is part of two community events: at the Griz Days Craft Fair (March 6) and as part of the Earth Day Celebration (April 22) and includes information from Seeds of Diversity Canada and our EcoGarden community projects and workshops. The display also has book displays, info on biodiversity, permaculture, local food production, saving seeds, growing sprouts; there's a draw for the book, "How to Save your own Seeds", kids' hands-on activities, and more.

Seedy Sunday is back!
Come out to Seedy Sunday on March 7th, 2010 at the Bowen Park Auditorium from 10am-3pm. Admission is $3.00, Everybody is welcome. Trade or purchase organic and non-hybrid seeds, native plants, purchase bee houses, rain barrels and other tools for self-reliance and back yard gardening . There will also be an activity centre for kids! Bring your own seeds to the seed exchange table.
This popular event, which is put on by the Nanaimo Foodshare Society and the Nanaimo Community Garden Society, traditionally takes place on the first Sunday of every March, just in time for gardeners to pick up a great variety of seeds, seedlings, and other gardening material and supplies. The focus is on, but not limited to, organic, heritage and heirloom seed varieties. Attendees should be sure to bring their own well marked seeds to trade at the seed exchange table.
Nanaimo Foodshare will be providing a select menu of food and beverages in our concession for the event with a focus on local products.
Dirk Becker, a Lantzville urban farmer will be providing a workshop on "10 tips that will change your life and how you grow food", Auntie Julie's workshop on "Square Foot Gardening" and Connie Kuramoto's workshop on "Seed Saving and getting your garden ready" are all included in the admission fee.
The Nanaimo Foodshare Society will be accepting applications for vendors until February 12th, 2010 but reserve soon as space is limited.

The Graham Island East Coast Farmer's Institute will host the first Seedy Saturday for the Queen Charlotte Islands on from at the Tlell Fire Hall
This annual event, hosted by One Straw Society, is a great place to swap seeds, shop farmer's booths, buy plants and gather information to help you have a successful garden. There will also be a puppet show and storytime for children. As in previous years, there will be a 'Salon' in the evening at the Gumboot with film clips, informative food-related speakers and open discussion on many ideas.
