It took 5 years
to become self sufficient in fruits and vegetables year round at
The Garden Path; the abundant garden strives to inspire others to
grow more of their own food. For 20 years Carolyn has been growing
food and sharing it with others through The Garden Path Nursery,
which closed down in 2006 so she could focus on seed production,
writing, speaking, and educational programmes on Food Security.
The Garden Path is proud of 'Seeds of Victoria' because they
know how much love and attention goes into the garden. Most of
the food grown uses 'Seeds of Victoria' in order to test seed
vigour and quality; new varieties are also trialled every year in
search of those that produce the highest yields for the greatest
food value. The Garden Path is fortunate in that it is sited inland
away from the cooling effect of the ocean. In summer the garden gets
10F hotter, which gets the garden off to a fast start and enables
seeds to mature in cooler years with late spring starts.
'Seeds of Victoria' no longer produces a paper seed catalogue.
To order seeds you can visit a full colour on-line seed catalogue
(updated in December with the year's new seed collection.)
'Seeds of Victoria' are also available through select stores in
Victoria and around Vancouver Island, and at many
Vancouver Island Seedy Saturdays.
Carolyn is author of a best selling book
A Year on The Garden Path – a 52-week guide to organic gardening
(www.earthfuture.com/gardenpath)
and is currently writing
her next book on greater food self sufficiency and seed saving.
In 2009 The Garden Path opens a school to teach a 10-month programme
called 'Twelve Steps to Sustainable Home-grown Food Production.'

BC Seed Growing Manual
BC Seed grower Patrick Steiner has published his first seed growing
book: Small-Scale Organic Seed Production. This publication is not so much a
"how-to" of seed growing as it is a "what to expect" when embarking on a
journey of seed growing ... more
